Now that’s a house party I want to get invited to! Meek Mill recruits his fellow Philly partner in rhyme Young Chris to get their Kid ‘N Play on for the single from his highly touted mixtape, Dreamchasers, released earlier this year. This seems like they had a lot of fun making this video from the bottle popping to all the sexy ladys littered throughout. There is even a cameo by the hilarious comedian Lil Duval thrown in as well as Philadelphia 76er and part time MC Lou Williams. I’m interested to find out whose house they filmed this at and what the budget was for the video. There’s nothing too special about the video or song but it definitely works well as a single that can get airplay on the radio and on T.V. I am interested in how much mainstream appeal that Meek Mill will hold in the hip-hop world given that he leans more towards a hardcore street sound. If anybody can figure out how to market an artist who seems hard to connect with a large audience it would be Rick Ross and his MMG label. There’s already evidence in Wale that he can help someone turn nothing into something. Meek Mill has the unique voice and a varied styl that i believe can succeed in this industry and I’m just interested in what the future holds for him.
The 2011 BET Hip-Hop Awards premiered last night and throughout the program there were a handful of cyphers from many different MC’s in the game. The clear highlight was the new and improved Shady Records crew with Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, and of course the boss himself, Eminem. With the legendary DJ Premier on the 1’s and 2’s every single one of them brought their A game and killed it. If anyone had any doubts that Marshall had lost his edge those were erased last night. Just watch and marvel at what the pure essence of hip-hop looks like.
I was in an old school mood so I thought I’d throw one of my favorite songs of all time up here. Camp Lo is the most underrated hip-hop duo in history in my opinion. Many people have never heard of them so I hope I get at least one new fan from this blog. The members are Sonny Cheeba and Geechi Suede from the Bronx, NY. This track is off of their classic debut album Uptown Saturday Night. The two were famous for their fast spitting rhymes and making up their own slang which is most evident in this track.
I just recently caught wind of this cat out of Harlem, USA because Drake brought him out while he was DJing at the Versace store in NYC. I think he has an original style and hope he can shine the light back on the New York hip-hop scene since it’s been lagging behind the south in recent years. Definitely keeping my eye out for whatever comes next for this kid.
